‘Ezy 5’ live at the Arnhem Club March 18th

Ezy 5 were the support act for headline outfit the Beards and as I watched a collective of Beards who came out to get an earful of local sounds they could be seen smiling and nodding their heads and exchanging those ‘these guys are good’ kind of unspoken looks musos will exchange amongst themselves.
It’s because Ezy 5 are what is great about our local indigenous musicians, genuine, natural musicality that is inherent within their effortless demeanour.
These North East Arnhem Land Boys have begun carving a niche of their very own making, by combining their obvious love of modern beats and sounds from a hip hop culture with the tried and tested salt water reggae and traditional sounds more common to this region.
With it’s obvious embrace of hip hop this is music that will inspire a younger generation to pick up instruments and mics so as to emulate their new role models, Ezy 5, who play a brand of music that appeals and satisfies with originality and hits you like an invigorating salty onshore breeze.
I hope they explore and expand on this formula as it’s got success stamped all over it, a huge credit goes to the boys and also to musical mentor for many a local indigenous band Mr. Stu Kellaway for developing yet another exciting band that will hopefully follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before them like East Journey and trailblazing pioneers Yothu Yindi.
